John Bunyan once said to pray often, for prayer is a shield to the soul, a sacrifice to God, and a scourge for Satan. Prayer is one of the most inexhaustible topics in Christendom.

Though a lot of preachers have written about what prayer is all about, some define prayer as man’s soul communicating with God through the help of the Holy Spirit in Jesus’ name.

Still, others see prayer as a man communicating his needs with God. These are all fascinating definitions, much more than needs. Prayer can be likened to an email address known to all men, but only those who have access to the password can operate it.

It is much more than communicating one’s need; it is a daily spiritual exercise. Hence, prayer is the liberty given to all to call on the name of the Lord. It is God who answers prayers; no man or any other being has such power, for all power belongs to God.

The ability to answer prayer is one of the distinct attributes of God. He listens to whoever He chooses, and that is why He chose to answer Elijah in 1 Kings 18:22–39.

Max Lucado said, ‘Our prayers may be awkward, our attempts may be feeble, but since the power of prayer is in the one who hears it and not in the one who says it, our prayers do make a difference.’

Prayer should be the daily lifestyle of every child of God. It should be a first-line response and not a last-ditch effort.

Prayer should be the first attempt you make in all situations, not when you’ve exhausted all other options.

1 Thessalonians 5:17 encourages us to pray without ceasing. Don’t be worried that God won’t hear or answer.

Prayer changes everything. It is the best pain reliever that can ever be prescribed to you. God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord. 1 Corinthians 1:9.
